Trinity Church |

Newport, of course, has a beautiful old pre-Revolutionary church, and this one, carefully restored, is a real gem. |

Trinity Church, at corner of Spring and Church Streets, was built in 1726 from plans by Sir Christopher Wren, and still has its "bishop's miter" weathervane, as it did before the Revolution. The church is full of history: Bishop George Berkeley gave the organ (1733), George Washington was known to have worshiped here (pew no. 81), and its famous three-decker "wineglass" pulpit is widely admired.
