What to See & Do in Ogunquit, Maine

Stroll along the Atlantic Ocean via Marginal Way, walk and window-shop at Perkins Cove, crew a lobster boat, lie on the beach, take in a play....

Marginal Way
To walk Marginal Way, start at the town's information office, pick up a map, and start at the Sachem Hotel—you'll come out right at Barnacle Billy's Restaurant in Perkins Cove, a mile (1.6 km) or so away.

The Atlantic Ocean, the rocky coast, the gulls wheeling overhead, and the smiles of the other walkers are all a treat whether the sun is shining, or it's misty, or even if there's a gale coming.

Ogunquit Playhouse
The next thing to do is to call the Ogunquit Playhouse (US 1, tel 207-646-5511) to get seats for a performance, which will no doubt feature a star or two of national reputation. Shows are scheduled for Monday through Saturday at 8:30 pm and Wednesday and Thursday at 2:30 pm.

Beaches
As for beaches, Ogunquit's Main Beach, Little Beach, and Footbridge Beach are ranged along a peninsula just a few minutes' walk from the center of town. Lifeguards are on duty from 8 am to 5 pm daily in summer.

Perkins Cove
Save time for a stroll around the shops and galleries of Perkins Cove, the picturesque old fishing-village section of town.

You can get to know the sea in Ogunquit by going down to Perkins Cove where, next to Barnacle Billy's Restaurant, the dock of the Finestkind boats is located.

Each hour during the day, from Monday to Saturday, the lobster boats set out to cruise the Maine coast, hauling in the lobster pots and the day's catch. You can go along and have the process of lobstering explained while you view the coastline and the fishing grounds. There are cocktail, starlight, and lighthouse tour cruises as well.
