Central Park is among New York City's greatest wonders, a vast work of art by genius landscape designer Frederick Law Olmsted. If New Yorkers take the park for granted, that's because of Olmsted's genius. He designed a huge artificial work of landscape art to seem completely natural and un-artificial. Visitors believe they are just strolling through nature, when in fact every path and prospect was planned by Olmsted and his business partner Calvert Vaux. |
