New England Salt Marshes |
|
|
Flat lowland areas invaded daily by the sea, not beaches, not dry land. Populated by hardy grasses and abundant aquatic and bird life, they protect the coasts from marine erosion in all the New England states except Vermont. This view is of the Great Salt Marsh that stretches from the Massachusetts North Shore all the way to Maine. I like salt marshes because they're beautiful to look at: calm, picturesque, quietly alive, born of both the land and the sea. |
