Tortured Trees

Being one of the oldest towns in the USA, Concord MA has some old, old trees, like this great veteran on Lexington Road. What stories it would have to tell! The British redcoats may have marched past it on April 19, 1775. The Minutemen may have hid behind it to harry them on their retreat. Bronson and Louisa May Alcott, Emerson, Hawthorne and Thoreau most certainly walked by it, and perhaps even sheltered in its shade. Its tortured, convoluted bark is a record, but not of these things....
