About 8 miles (13 km) east of the town of Rangeley ME (map), Saddleback Mountain Ski Resort has been extensively renewed and expanded in recent years, and development continues apace. The setting is scenic, with fine views across the broad valley to the north. Saddleback's vertical drop is 2000 feet (610 meters) from a top elevation of 4000 feet (1220 meters) on 8000 acres (3237 hectares) of land. There are 61 trails currently available, the largest number of them Expert, but with nearly an equal number of Beginner, and slightly fewer Intermediate. Snowmaking covers 85% of the trails to supplement the 200 inches (5 meters) of annual snowfall. The main lodge was modernized in 2008, new trails are being developed, and plans call fo more ski lifts to be added as well.
