Plane
Rhode Island is so compact
that one airport handles all the important national
flights: it's T
F Green State Airport (PVD) in Warwick,
just a few miles south of Providence. From the airport,
you'll have to take a taxi to the center of Providence.
By
Train
Ten trains a day each from
New York City (4
hours) and Boston MA
(1 hour) arrive in
Providence's white marble Amtrak railroad
station (tel 401-751-5416) beneath the State
House.
By Bus
The Bonanza
Bus Terminal (tel
401-751-8800, 888-751-8800) in Providence is
north of the center (I-95, Exit 25). Bonanza runs
several buses daily to Providence from New
York City,
Boston MA,
Newport RI,
Hartford CT, Hyannis (Cape
Cod) MA,
Springfield
MA, and Albany NY. Travel time from New
York City is about 4 hours; from Boston or Newport about
1 hour, from Hyannis (Cape
Cod) about 1.5 hours.
By
Car
I-95 goes right through
the center of Providence on its way between New
York City and Boston.
In the center of Providence,
I-195 branches off to go
through Fall
River MA (the turnoff for Newport RI), New
Bedford MA, and
then on
to Cape
Cod.
