Getting Around Newport
Parking
places are at a premium, although the situation
is certainly not hopeless.
But why bother? If you live close enough
to Newport to make it practicable, why not
bring—or rent—a bicycle?
You can't really see the mansions
by car—there's almost no
parking, you
always have to keep moving (the car behind
you
will
make
sure you do)—and
Newport is small enough so that even an
out-of-shape biker can see the town without
strain.
Getting to Newport by Car
The fastest way from New
York City,
Boston, or other points west or north,
is to follow I-95 to US 1 to RI Route 138
east across the bridge to Jamestown and
then the Newport Bridge (toll) to Newport.
Coming from Cape
Cod, Fall
River MA or other
points east, follow I-195 toward Providence,
but turn south on RI Route 114 before reaching
Providence, and follow it to Newport.
