A drive 2 miles east of Lincoln along the Kancamagus Highway brings you to Loon Mountain (tel 603-745-8146), a modern ski area with a gondola (four-passenger cars), two triple-chair lifts, and five double-chair lifts to take 9,600 skiers an hour up the mountain. The vertical drop is 2,100 feet, and the longest run is 3 miles. Loon has a limited-lift-lines policy (make reservations), and top-to-bottom snowmaking capacity. The Mountain Club on Loon has 240 rooms and a restaurant; other services at the base lodge include a cafeteria, lounge, nursery, ski shop, and rental shop. In summer and fall, Loon Mountain's gondolas operate from daily to take visitors on the 7,100-foot trip (1,850-foot rise) to the summit. There are cafeterias at both the base and summit stations.
