The area centered on North Woodstock and Lincoln is rich in possibilities for outdoor activities, especially hiking, camping, picnicking, and skiing at Cannon Mountain in Franconia Notch itself, and at Loon Mountain just east of Lincoln at the western end of the Kancamagus Highway. |

Interstate 93 comes up from Manchester and Concord to pass through the White Mountain National Forest. The towns of North Woodstock and Lincoln form the center of the developed area within the forest, and it's here that most people come to look for a room, a meal, or any of the other services of civilization. From Lincoln, the Kancamagus Highway heads east through the most scenic 33-mile drive in the mountains. North of Lincoln and North Woodstock in Franconia Notch State Park are several natural curiosities, including the site of the famous Old Man of the Mountains at the narrow pass called Franconia Notch. North of Franconia Notch, the town of Franconia NH offers several quiet country inns away from the bustle of summer vacationers. |
