Sebago Lake, Maine |

Of Maine's hundreds of beautiful, clear lakes, Sebago Lake is one of the largest and most accessible. The eastern shore is somewhat developed with small villages, highway establishments, and the like. At the southern tip, the town of Sebago Lake is hardly more than a few dozen houses, two stores, and a gas station. Along the western shore in the area of the settlement called East Sebago there are a number of places which rent rooms and cabins, mingled among the larger private summer cabins and houses. Although the roads that skirt the lake do have collections of cabins and houses here and there, it's hardly what you'd call thickly settled. You'll come across Sebago Lake State Park at the northern tip of the lake, where there's also a fine beach, picnic facilities, and a camping area. Although very busy in summer, the park is yours to enjoy with only a handful of others in early June or in September after Labor Day weekend.
