Salem MA Hotels, Inns & B&Bs

A historic hotel and two inns are among the best lodging choices in Salem.

Hawthorne Hotel
This restored 89-room hotel at 18 Washington Square West (map), Salem, MA 01970 (Tel 978-744-4080, or toll free 800-729-7829, fax 978-745-9842), at the southwest corner of Salem Common is within easy walking distance of all the important sights in Salem. Lots of wood paneling, brass chandeliers and old prints and paintings set a historical mood in the public rooms, though furnishings in the guest rooms are somewhat more modern.

Salem Inn
Three historic houses in the center of Salem have been restored to accept visitors in 40 guest rooms. The original Salem Inn at 7 Summer Street (map), Salem, MA 01970 (Tel 978-741-0680, or toll free 800-446-2995) is only a half block from the Witch House and two blocks from the Peabody Essex Museum. The inn's other houses, the West House, Curwen House and Peabody House, are nearby. Parking and continental breakfast are included in the rates.

Coach House Inn
One mile (1.6 km, 15-minute walk) south of Salem Common (map), at 284 Lafayette Street (MA Route 114), Salem, MA 01970 (Tel 978-744-4092, toll free 800-688-8689, fax 978-745-8031), the Coach House Inn is a large Victorian house built in 1879 by E Augustus Emmerton, sea captain, merchant, and banker. The decor is period Victorian, and several of the 11 guest rooms (including one two-room suite capable of sleeping four persons) even have antique fireplaces. Several rooms have kitchenettes.
