Legend has it that maritime explorer Bartholomew Gosnold named Martha's Vineyard island because he had a daughter named Martha, and he found wild grapes on the island. Since 1971, Martha's Vineyard has actually had an operating vineyard and winery: Chicama Vineyards (tel 508-693-0309 or 888-244-2262, info@chicamavineyards.com), southwest of Vineyard Haven off State Road on Stoney Hill Road in West Tisbury. The wines include reds, pinks and whites: Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier, Shiraz, Chenin Blanc and even a cranberry sparkling wine. They also carry an assortment of glassware and wine and culinary utensils and accessories. Come for a visit, tour and wine-tasting. Chicama Vineyards
